Celtic Woman, the Irish vocal group, has announced a new run of fall dates for their US tour. The new trek will supplement the over 70 shows that the group has already performed in this year. With the addition of the new dates, the total number of show’s from the “Isle of Hope Hour” will total over 100. The new leg kicks off in Waukegan, IL on October 7 and will run through the late fall, wrapping up in Long Beach, CA on November 22.
Tickets will be going on sale on August 24 for a majority of the forthcoming shows. More details can be found on Celtic Woman’s website.
The vocal ensemble is touring in support of “The Greatest Journey: Essential Collection,” their best-of album. The set was recorded under David Downes’ direction and gathers material from the previous releases of the group as well as four additional new songs: “Ave Maria,” “You Raise Me Up,” “The Call” and “Pie Jesu.” The new album is a follow up to the DVD/CD combo of 2007 “Celtic Woman: A New Journey.” It was filmed in Ireland at Slane Castle and captures the second of the group’s on-stage production.
The group in June released a new song as a ring tone and digital download called “O America!” The song was written by William Joseph and Brendan Graham. Celtic Woman performed the song extensively while on tour of the US in 2009.
Chloe Agnew, one of Celtic Woman’s vocalists, wrote on their blog that the song was a thank you and dedication for the US being the very first country to embrace the group. Now we feel we’re a part of your family and that makes us feel very proud and honored. You are what inspired us, she said.
Currently Celtic Woman is comprised of the vocalists Alex Sharpe, Lynn Hilary Chloe Agnew and Lisa Kelly as well as Mairead Nesbitt, the group’s fiddle player. All of the vocalists in the group have released their own solo albums in addition to their recording work with Celtic Woman.
